In honor of this Year for Priests, the theme of the message for the World Communications Day is dedicated to priests and communication. As the Metropolitan Archbishop of Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, Philippe Ouédraogo explains, many pastors who are interested in todays new means of communication have an important role to play in the formation of a new media. The Church of our time can only evangelize within the realities of the present time. Therefore, the Holy Father and the official Magisterium of the Church invite her to fully live out and employ the modern means of communication for evangelization. This being the case and facing certain ethical slip-ups, as pastors we are compelled to contribute to the education of conscience, and to encourage discernment, to help people discern. For the Archbishop of Ouagadougou, the Church in Africa wishes to use these modern means to support her activity. But to employ the new techniques, the African dioceses need help and are trying to instill programs of cooperation. We face serious problems. Problems on the personal level: to educate and make experts of all those who work at the service of radio and television stations. In addition, we face the problem of means: financial means and adequate equipment to accomplish this task that is very important for the education of our people and the evangelization of the Church as such.
