This tutorial will show you the basics of setting up a Vray Sun and Vray Physical Camera. The sun will be linked to a Max Daylight System for position control. I will also show gamma adjustment with the shutter speed adjustment to adjust light levels.

  • At 4:36, you click on blown-out white pixels, and it gives you the "color(float)" value. How did you do this? i have 3DS Max 2011. I right-clicked on mine, and it brought up RGB values and alpha with 16-bit values, etc, but no color(float) values.

  • @ucrapia You need to make sure you are using the Vray Frame buffer, not the max frame buffer.

  • I used the default setting other than using Irr map on med for the 1st pass, and LC for the second.

The settings for the renderer are very much dependent on the scene and the size of the rendering.

  • Nice video and aproach with daylight system. I was searching a method to render volume sunlight in vray, anyway your video is useful. In color mapping I use gamma correction type with 2.2 gamma. Have you set up your screen to match the correct workspace? I will test your setting.

  • @juantrillotube No, I didn't have my screen configured to the correct color workspace. When I try to work I usually am sending my renderings to architects who use default settings, So i don't change my monitor. Also the main intent was to help people who really didn't want to get into the million settings of Vray and color in general. Using this method I hoped to help them get a quick decent look to their exterior scenes.

thanks in advance for answer ;)

  • thanks for help :)

  • @travistlo thank you........... nice vray frame buffer tactics

  • You are concentrating way too much on too many lights and their settings.

Just use vray buffer EV correction meter to adjust the exposure value and use vray sun with vray light plane, dome to light up the scene
