The Student Conservation Association (www.thesca.org) is a group of young people dedicated to maintaining and improving the environment in our national parks and monuments. This was a night of fun at one of their camps in the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation area in the beautiful Appalachian woodlands of northwestern New Jersey.

  • lovely!!! but why would one not wear shoes to this???

  • Kids like to do a lot of things barefoot, especially contra dancing. Modern dance influence? I don't know. Some claim it strengthens the muscles and improves balance and coordination when dancing. I'm a podiatrist in my day job, BTW; but don't have a professional opinion on this though I'm inclined to agree. However, after they get a bit older they'll find it's too sore to dance w/o shoes, though many dance shoes are very thin-soled anyway.
