Towards the Light - Patrick Hawes (2006)

Over the past few years, Patrick Hawes has emerged as one of the most popular contemporary English composers. Within weeks of its release in 2004, his debut album "Blue in Blue" stormed the classical charts and was made CD of the week on Classic FM. Subsequently, it was voted the fastest and highest new entry into the hall of fame by the Classic FM audience. As Classic FM's composer in residence for 2006-2007, he was commissioned to write the twelve Towards the Light piano pieces. This is the first called "Towards the Light".

This piece for me feels like a light when perhaps you are treading a dark path and need to be directed elsewhere. Towards the culmination it feels like you are bathed in light.

Playing this piece helps me to understand that in dark times in our lives their is a light.
