Earmarks are expenditures inserted into spending bills, often after they have been reviewed by lawmakers. They often benefit well the connected contributers to candidates' campaigns. Your taxes are diverted to the private interests that return a portion back to the lawmakers as campaign contributions. An indictment of business as usual in Washington.
