This, the debut solo single by Frankie Rose comes across as a kind of diamond of the Brooklyn music scene, of which Rose has been a vital part over the last couple of years, as a member of bands like Vivian Girls and Crystal Stilts - where she used to be the drummer.
Her move from drums to guitar and lead vocals is extremly welcome, at least when the result is as stunningly beautiful and marvelous as this single. It is out now on Slumberland Records and it might very well be the Brooklyn single of the year.
The wall of sound ghost of 60's girl groups has rarely sounded more vibrant and alive than this.
this song is hauntingly good...i can't get it out of my head and that is fine with me. I feel suddenly inclined to enter a drag race and take up tandem surfing....
