"Is It You?" was one of the tracks from Lee Ritenour's 1981 jazz album "Rit", featuring vocals from Eric Tagg. It became a crossover hit reaching number fifteen on the pop chart and number twenty-seven on the soul chart. Lee Mack 'Captain Fingers' Ritenour is a guitarist, recording artist, composer and producer. He began his career at the age of 16 and has appeared on over 3000 sessions, recorded over 40 albums, and has charted over 30 instrumental and vocal contemporary jazz hits since 1976. Ritenour is considered to be a pioneer in the contemporary jazz and jazz-funk genres of music. Ritenour was born January 11, 1952 in Los Angeles, California. He played his first session when he was 16 with The Mamas & The Papas and given the moniker 'Captain Fingers' because of his manual dexterity on the guitar. His prolific career includes a Grammy Award for the collaborative work "Harlequin" (1985), and 17 other Grammy nominations. Ritenour also holds the distinction of having two of the promotional videos for his songs "Is It You?" and "Mr. Briefcase" being played during MTV's first day. Ritenour has been at the top of many guitar polls throughout the world. Throughout his career, Ritenour has experimented with different styles of music. A true fusionist, he has often incorporated elements of funk, pop, rock, blues, Brazilian and classical music with jazz. This channel is dedicated to the classic jazz music you've loved for years. The smokin' hot, icy cool jams that still make you tap your feet whenever you hear them . . . Cool Jazz is here!

  • Wonderful vocals by Eric Tagg. The guy was amazing. Check out "Dream Walkin'" an Eric Tagg album produced by Lee if you like this. Same feel as "Is it you".

Here's a fun little known fact... You know that cool picture of Lee in front of a brick wall with "RIT" painted on it? That was in a large back room at a recording studio called "Monterey Sound" in Glendale, California where Lee did a ton of recording in the early 80's. I used to work there - should have gotten my pic in front of it.

  • This song is freakin' AWESOME....memories of being 13 and carefree....

  • I love this song

  • This reminds me of bar hopping on a Sunday afternoon on Second street in L.B. CA. The irish pub, Panama Joes, Acapulco Inn. Great times

  • And ,when i was walking in the airport in 1982 and heard this incredible artist on the terminal music system, i instantly was mesmerized. and have been a fan since..... incredible sound, incredible artistry, and great flow...a great smooth jazz piece that will transcend generations... all the new music is great also...shame there isnt more talent like this now a days....

  • Is it my imagination....no, it's this song....!!!!
