um... isn't this car fitted with a CENTRE LSD (if at all) - meaning that if the lsd can't work if one front and one back are off the ground... both axles are "requesting" 50% of the torque and on each one its going to the spinning wheel...
I have a 2005 Forester 2.5 XS MT and if one wheel is off the ground it works fine... if 2 are off (obviously on opposite axles) I use the handbrake or lighly on the foot brake - works every time...

I drive a 98 forester and this does happen sometime in rough terrain because there is no rear LSD.
To solve this probleme you only need to pop the e-brake half way or apply the brake gradually as you give it some gas.
It will drive thru like if nothing happened.

Could'nt you just press the brake a bit and use the VDC to distribute the power to the other wheels???

yea something is wrong with his awd system i have a 2000 forester and im telling i park where others are afraid to park i have been in a situation where one wheel has grip and i get out with less effort that he is putting out, you may also need fresh tires. Go 5 speed subies

jkZA123456789 knows how to operate a car! That is exactly what you should do.

Still a good car; probably bigger holes in the terrain under the snow than I can see here, but this looks like the average "challenge" my old dual-range '83 awd subie wagon took without effort. Seriously... almost boring unless the snow was deeper. Maybe the driver was surprised by the terrain, or gunned it immediately. Just a little more careful about where your wheels are going to track, as well as possible. Many people with 4wd just "point straight and give it gas". Learn wheel travel...

you need lockers!
...or a better car

that problem sucks.

i drive on the snow all the time and cant remember any chance when flooring could help on the snow. This driver looks like a beginner on the snow. =)

Ultimate symetrical 4wd, my ass!
There is snow on the center part of the rear axle which lifted the tires off the ground.

You are not right . There were no too much snow.
One rear wheel and one front were on the ground. The cause is that there is no LSD
We emulated this problem easily on two vehicles. And resolved it only by two persons pushing the vehicle.

It could be great to see what other cars can do in same situation. I think most of "SUV" will look helpless when two wheels got in the air. Only 100% blockage of the wheels on same axle will help.
