  • @TheDJDAB They both want the same thing. They want out of the life their parents have planned for them. Elaine wants out from under her mother's iron fist and Ben just feels unfulfilled and no job or graduate school will fill that void. So, they run away together because they want they same things but by the time they realize they've rushed into the rest of their lives with few options it's too late. They were both in love with the idea they shared which was freedom not really eachother afterall

  • fighting people off with a cross... classic! XD

  • Archer bought me here!!

  • I don't think this is open ended at all, anyone who thinks that is clearly blinded by their emotional attachment to the characters which is a fair sentiment especially if you have just watched the film with fresh eyes, but it is pretty cut and dry like Hankleberg said; they were both in love with the shared idea of freedom...not necessarily each other. Theres always room for interpretation but let's not take away the value of the true meaning here.

  • Cyborg Barry and Cyborg Katya...

  • the fx series archer just made a parody of this, i love that show and this movie :')

  • Simply, one of the greatest films of all time, period. :-)

  • @rsbarrett4991 I think I like this better than my theory to be honest. It makes for a happier ending. Like actually. I thank you kindly.

  • @rsbarrett4991 I think it can be fairly opened ended when it comes to this. We don't know what happens to them for a reason. They could end the same way Mr and Mrs. Robinson did or they really could be in love and live the lives they talked about having.

  • I get the feeling that they held hands while on the bus, you just can't see it. I wanted this movie to end happily haha

  • 3:05 Jesus moment?

  • @Hankleberg they needed to do nothing in this final scene other than look as they did, the bigger issue was them both knowing they escaped people who claim they have little choice in this world. they were so relaxed and content there was no need for gazing or arms around each other etc... just a massive sense of relief... they were probably much happier in the company of all the scrutinizing eyes on the bus because they felt a sense of honesty in them
