How an understanding of Formalism can benefit directors in the creation of original narratives.
Poetry, Literature and Films are not as dissimilar as many people might think. The former Russian Formalists made it clear since the 1920's.
Through and extract from An American Prayer, the last studio album by the rock band The Doors, which includes Jim Morrison's poetry (originally recoded in 1969 and 1970), this video essay intends to give a practical example of an understanding of Formalism, and to show that it is possible to convert a piece of poetry and music into a visual piece of art itself.
