  • I remember when this version was released in 1967. Marvin Gayes version came out in 68. I love both versions. Aretha never covered this song.

  • @dooalittledippsy They were mistaken, Aretha never sang it.

  • I heard Aretha on the oldie station doing this tune.I cant find it here anywhere.Could somebody veryfy that Aretha actually did do it and that the radio dj wasn't mistaken? Thanks.

  • @tranurse Actually I heard at Wikipedia that Marvin Gaye actually recorded his version first, but it wasn't re-leased until after Gladys and The Pips did theirs (Granted Wikipedia is not always 100% accurate).

  • This not the original version of this song. And it may or may not be the best. It IS a version unlike any other. And, it's my favorite. But what would give anyone the idea that Marvin P. Gaye cannot match "funk" and "groove" with ANY OTHER ARTIST. Gladys and everyone else struggles just to keep up with Marvin's soul. There isn't, wasn't nor will there be a "better" singer than he. And I love Motown too. And, someone asks how did he play this with just one finger? And I say. very well.

  • How did Jamerson play this with just one finger?

  • By far the best rendition of this song. Sho nuff.

  • marvin could never match the funk and the groove of this original. i love this cut, and also "the end of our road" two mega funk songs of the late 60s. great posting.

  • I LOVE MOTOWN!

  • Gladys' version is definitely the best! She and the guys hit #2 in Billboard, 12-16-67. God bless ya, for postin' it. Thanx! Have a great week!
