Lightspeed intro (1990, Microprose)

The introductory cutscene from the classic DOS-based Microprose game, Lightspeed. I'm not sure how to classify the game. It's a space adventure that shares concepts with space sims/shooters and strategy games too.

Released in 1990, Lightspeed is an impressive polygon-based 3D game in which you pilot the Trailblazer. This ship is an exploratory vessel out to collect needed resources, make alliances, clear up foes, and find a habitable planet for all of civilization. Time is limited because the colony ship housing civilization can't support its population forever.

Running in DOSBOX, of course.

Loved this game, still have it with the origianl box and manual. I just recently started using Dosbox to play these old dos games. Noticed you said it took you awhile to get the game to not freeze up. I'm having the same issue. Do you have any suggestions on how you got this game to work without freezing? Thanks in advance.

The cracked "abandonware" version causes problems. I actually own the game but don't have a 5.25" floppy drive so I tried that version first. The floppy version works fine however.

Nope, you're not the only one. But it sure doesn't seem to be very popular! I just posted two videos of some gameplay. It took me awhile to get the game to not freeze up.

Nice. I am doing an LP of this game, but it is the Hyperspeed version I am doing. Hyperspeed has a pretty cheesy intro compared to this one, but you do learn more about the alien spacecraft.

what a CLASSIC

great for all the same reasons that Star Control was (though I like Star Control better, Lightspeed had the polygons which was pretty cool for its day)
