This is a short review of the OOMA system. This is free home phone service with call waiting and all the features one could want for free. Magicjack may offer phone service for 19.95 a year, but honestly, who even wants to pay that and who wants to keep their computer on 24/7 to keep their dial tone. NOT ME. And the prices of the telephone, cable and even vonage are crazy. You pay one time up front to buy the Ooma hub and then no more charges, ever. They do have a premier package which they offer for 99.99 a year to have 2 phone lines and all kinds of other crazy features.

  • the reviewer is wrong or probably doesnt know this but u have to pay the annual taxes every year for 12$...magicjack is 20$ but its small and portable and onli cost 20$ for hardware...ooma is 200$

  • @hollafront1314 Huh. Odd. I've never been charged anything from them. I guess knock on wood. This is good. Magicjack you do have to keep your computer on 24/7 to have telephone dial tone. At all times.

  • Does the Scout have any purpose if you don't get the ooma premier service? If it does then I am not seeing it.

  • @Resistoon I dont have the scout because I don't have premier..I think it is only for the 2nd line and such..dont have a need for that.

  • Its been a few months, how is it doing for you?

Whats the purpose of the scout?

  • @Joeteck It is great. Calls are great and I don't miss my phone bill of 30.00 a month from the local telephone company for all of these features. 30.00 a month times 9 months...270 bucks and I only spent 169.99 so doing the math I've already paid for the OOMA hub and now I just keep racking up the profit from having free phone service.

  • I just got my Ooma Telo today and hooked it up right away. I currently have Vonage and I pay $32/month for it (500 minutes a month). I barely use it. I didn't realize how expensive it was until I found out about Ooma. I was planning to get a skype phone and pay $30/year for the unlimited calls, but the catch was, I have to pay extra to get a phone number which is $60/year. The Ooma has E911 and Skype doesn't. I got it from Amazon for $199 (which is the cheapest that I've seen so far)

  • @hollafront1314 ooma telo gets $12/yr tax. he has the ooma hub which has not tax whatsoever. when you have this set up you use your phones just as if you had a normal land line. with magic jack you have to have a computer on at all times which means if you want 24/7 phone service your wasting money burning electicity. So in the end ooma always wins...even if it has $12 taxes

  • @prynkya no, no problems

  • @DJTEVAdotCOM agreed! Wow thats great 2 years w/o a phone bill! I have it for 9 months and it has paid for itself as my normal phone bill with all of these features was like 30.00 a month and I paid 169.99 for this unit from fry's.

  • @albinouna I paid 169.99 refurb. unit from fry's electronics..no kind of issue with call quality or internet usage that I've noticed when talking on it. They have all kinds of features that you can adjust including how much data is allocated to the unit. I do have this unit runing on my router behind my firewall and everything works great with it. International calls I think they offer at a discounted rate like .03 a minute..but not sure. Or you could check out OOMA premiere

  • hey bro, quick qs, how much did u paid for it n is it any kinda issue when u r using the internet n u receive a call?(like slow connection etc), one more thing, what about international calls?
