installation instructions and specs for complete information.
We begin the installation of our fifth wheel trailer hitch by lowering the spare tire on our 2008 Ford 250 Super Duty. Next, we want to loosen the bed bolts to make it easier to install the rails for our fifth wheel hitch. Now we can slide the first rail over the frame and under the truck bed. With first rail in place towards the rear of the truck, we can then slide the second rail into place. Once we have the rails in place across the truck, we insert the bolts to level out the mounting brackets. After the rails are in place and bolts tightened, we retighten the bed bolts to make sure there will be no shifting. This ensures that all of the holes we are going to drill will align properly. Now we mark the holes where we need to drill through the side of the frame at the front and rear of the frame brackets. Before drilling your holes, check the inside of the frame rail on each side of the truck to make sure it is clear of any wiring or lines that run from the front to the back of the truck.

  • If you have the fifth wheel prep package with ford with the fifth wheel installed, will you still be able to connect the lights with a bumper pull trailer on the bumper pull hitch?

  • @TheMikentyty You should be able to connect the wiring for the lights on either a fifth wheel or a bumper pull trailer. If you are trying to tow a fifth wheel and a bumper pull trailer at the same time you would most likely overload the circuits and be over the weight capacity of your truck, but you should be able to re-wire depending on what you're towing.

  • so im guessing u cant in stall a fifth wheel if there is a gooseneck?

  • @OWNmeansPWN If there is already a gooseneck installed in the truck, the gooseneck brackets under the bed will interfere with the installation of the 5th-wheel brackets and rails. The best option for being able to use a 5th-wheel and gooseneck hitch in the same truck bed is to install 5th-wheel rails that can accommodate a 5th-wheel hitch and a gooseneck adapter plate.

  • @etrailertv I got 3'' body spacers on my truck. will it still work with a 5th wheel hitch?

  • @928baller The main thing you will need to worry about is pulling your trailer level. If you measure from the pin box to the ground and make sure that your fifth wheel hitch is installed in your bed so that it is pulling the trailer level, you should not have a problem. However, it is always best to ask your dealer about warranty issues before making any modifications when pulling a trailer. If you have any other questions, please let me know.

  • @imjustahorselover You can buy a custom fit fifth wheel for your F150 from our web site! If you go to our home page etrailer(dot)com and scroll down, you will see as search box that says "See what fits my vehicle". Enter your F150's year, make and model and then choose fifth wheels. It will provide you with a link to all the custom fit installation kits and fifth wheel hitches that will work with your F150. Let me know if you have any more questions!

  • Joe first drills pilot holes in the truck and puts the rails in to ensure that he will drill the holes in the correct spot. It is necessary to remove the rails and then to finish drilling the holes.

  • Sweet ... but is taking off the rails prior to drilling out the holes in the bed a necessity?

  • Yes, the fifth wheel can be removed when you are not towing. Since this is an under-bed mount, you will have unobstructed use of your truck bed. Let us know if you have other concerns.
