Church Street, a main road through the middle of Barnsley Town Centre, has been shut off for a two week experiment to see if Barnsley's road network can handle the strain without it. Automatic number plate cameras are monitoring traffic to see where it goes. If the results are not too disruptive, it will be closed permenantly and the road turned into part of a new 'Town Hall Square'. The Barnsley Chronicle filmed traffic as the experiment began.
"Barnsley Council's DIG UP THE ROAD FOR CONGESTION PLAN"... another failure! First the Alhambra, secondly a Market that didn't even get off the ground and thirdly, sending traffic out of the town... and they wonder why the town is as it is. Vote Warburton for Barnsley Central in 2010
