Optical communications contact across Yucca Valley

In February 2008, Clint (KA7OEI) and Chris (VK3AML - visiting the U.S. from Australia) visited Bob, W6QYY and his wife at their home in Yucca Valley, California. Bob was one of the participants in the 1963 "Operation Red Line" where they used the newly-invented red Helium-Neon laser to span a 118+ mile (190+ km) path with voice.

Our visit stretched into the evening and we took that opportunity to span a 7.3 mile (nearly 12km) path using LED-based optical communications gear.
