he Mercian Regiment was formed on 1 September 2007 at Tamworth Castle in the presence of The Colonel in Chief, His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, Earl of Chester, KG KT GCB OM.

Three Regular regiments and one Territorial, each with more than 300 years' of loyal and professional service to the Crown, merged to form the Infantry's newest regiment.

The regiments that formed The Mercian Regiment were:

The 22nd (Cheshire) Regiment, now 1 MERCIAN (Cheshire)
The Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regiment, now 2 MERCIAN (Worcesters and Foresters)
The Staffordshire Regiment, now 3 MERCIAN (Staffords)
The West Midlands Regiment and The King's Cheshire Regiment, now 4 MERCIAN (V)

A proud, close-knit local regiment with three centuries of operational success behind us, we continue to draw our fighting strength from the history and traditions of our antecedent regiments, and the strong family ties we maintain with our counties and communities.

We are the infantry of the modern heart of England - confident, diverse and forward-looking.

  • I live in the Mercia area of England so if I were going to, then this would be my #1 choice.

The course I'm doing has had me at Merican HQ in Staffordshire as well.
