Truth is, Edie was allergic to smoke. But needed the work to help pay off her late husband's IRS debt so she became the Muriel spokeswoman and never told them. And the social taboo against women smoking cigars was still very much in effect in the 60's. I love Edie.
The Murial Cigar commercials with Edie Adams were among my favorites as a kid dating back to the early 1960's.I thought Edie was so gorgeous. Rest in peace Edie Adams.
I've been thinking about this ad since I heard Edie Adams died. I remember singing "spend a little dime with me" with my brothers and sisters as a kid - haha
also singing about "Muriel Panatela Extras" ... what they were, we weren't quite sure, but we did enjoy singing about them and saying "why don't you pick one up and smoke it sometime?"
