As for the tree huggers, don't worry about them. You are right. The likelihood of a hydrogen balloon lighting anything on fire is extremely low. The amount of heat transferred to the tree was minimal. It's only a split second of flame. Take your finger and pass it through the flame of a candle. Doesn't hurt. Same deal.
