I strolled in and out of the cave when I got on location and divided the day between the tides... I decided to live safely sketching one looking out and one looking in. Inside the cave looking out the colours were heightened the tonal contrasts were extreme and I could couldn't see the palette or the canvas so well as I wanted... The sea started thumping the cave walls and I was inside this drum and decided it was time to shift into the light...
Leaving the cave... I tried forgetting philosophy and metaphysics concentrating on the job in hand... after standing in a spot where my sense of gravity had been heightened I immediately felt lighter but my thoughts got heavier as I stumbled and climbed up to sketch the raging water...and I thought about blind Tiresias forced to look back and I looked back into the dark cave... I started singing "Once a man like the sea I raged... once a woman like the earth I gave" Then A 3 "Let the Caged Bird Sing" came into my ears and set me straight...
Boys a Hetton is the only tie in with Kate... her great grandma came from Hetton
as did mine and all the other mothers mothers from there.

Such a sense of place ... a wonderous adventure ... masterful paintings ... thank you. Enjoyed the connections to music and literature, as always. If one did not have this cultural connection, how would the experience differ? ... not as rich and grounded I guess. ... a film maker artist you are too.
