CHINA today refused to commit to accepting any further foreign rescue teams into the quake-stricken country, after it let in emergency workers from Japan to assist with aid efforts.
"We will, according to the actual situation and the receiving capability in the localities, give serious consideration to the request of foreign rescue teams," foreign ministry spokesman Qin Gang told reporters.

He was speaking in response to a question asking if and when China would accept more foreign rescuers.

Qin gave no further information on the issue.

China today announced it would finally accept rescue teams from Japan, three days after a 7.9-magnitude earthquake struck southwestern Sichuan province and left more than 40,000 people dead or buried under rubble.

It had previously rejected any foreign offers of help.

Australian expertise was politely declined yesterday, and South Korean specialists were also rejected, even though China faces a race against time to find survivors.

"After the disastrous earthquake in Sichuan, many countries expressed their willingness to send rescue teams to assist the Chinese side's work of disaster relief," Qin said.

  • Nations express outrage over Aung San Suu Kyi's detention, the rightful elected Burma's president, excepts China Communist has supported Burma's dictator regime in power. Cyclone death toll may reach 100000, but the Junta rejected UN's aid risks a fresh tragedy.

  • CCP turned down international help by sending special earthquake rescue teams to save people being trapped in the collapsed buildings. A critical period of 72 hrs had passed since the erathquake struck. The hope of survival has gone and casualties will mount. It seems CCP is more concerned about losing their iron grip on power than people's lives. Shame on CCP.

  • This is may be a reason: Sensitive info

China's main complex for making nuclear warhead fuel, codenamed Plant 821, is beside a river in a hilly, forested part of the earthquake zone. It is some 15 miles northwest of Guangyuan in Sichuan Province. The vast site holds China's largest production reactor and factories that mine its spent fuel for plutonium — the main ingredient for modern nuclear arms.

  • Why China had previously rejected any foreign offers of help?
