A 2 Liter pop bottle is used along with 1" PVC fittings. The bottom is removed from the bottle and a notch is cut in the open side to allow water out.

Many holes are cut in the bottle cap with a hot soldering iron. A small bit of plastic screen is placed in the cap. The cap is glued into a 1" PVC coupling.

Perma-Beads (a filter media) is placed in the tumbler to diffuse flow. Flow is adjusted to just a trickle so that the beads just barely move.

Part 2 shows the overflow.

  • The permabeads are not really needed. My later ones just use the screening.

  • perhaps you can place the beads under the screen which would allow greater control of the water flow

  • It works!!

  • If you make quite a few "later ones" in the future may you take the time to take photos in stages or a video tutorial of making it. Instructions are fairly simple but it would be much appreciated by the community to see one done with greater detail. Thank you for educational video. Permabeads i would guess are not really needed and can harm the eggs but offers more control over the flow rate, which can be dissipated and distributed evenly compared to a regular screen.

  • Nifty!
