Today's Republican Party wouldn't like Ike. If Barry Goldwater would call his Administration "a dime-store New Deal" back then, what would Barry's even nuttier successors, the Teabaggers, say about him now?

He was a 5-star general who had no political experience! The ideal candidate. He was Supreme Allied Commander of the European Theatre, we had won the war, and he was very popular. He could have defeated anyone.

That's how Andrew Jackson became President. He was a war hero, the "Common man's friend", you get votes that way.

This is probably my favorite Presidential Campaign a but I also really like the one for Adlai Stevenson with sultry woman singing and I can't remember which president but it was definitely in the 70s and its a hippie commercial!
