Documentary depicting the 1966 riots in the Cleveland neighborhood of Hough. Made for National History Day 2008, National Qualifier. Made by Benjamin Davis and Lawrence Neil.
wow...I'm from Louisiana, but live in Cleveland now. I'm making a documentary on the Salvation Army, which was started as a result of the riots. This was so insightful. Thank you.
I was sitting in a coffeehouse called LaCave when the riots started. The police came in and said that everyone had to leave immediately. You could smell the smoke for hours!
Great video. Everything was really well done. This was like a Cleveland version of the Crips and Bloods movie. I'm still leaning about Cleveland's history and didn't know about the Urban Renewal project. It seems eerily similar to the new Euclid Corridor that's now failing. Sadly, I don't think Cleveland's ever gonna get its act together.
the vid was very good. percey giles that was killed in the riots was my grandfather... his kids, my mom, uncle, and aunt nor my grandmother never seen this vid..

Please explain to me how you get your point across by burning your own neighborhood? Seems assbackwards to me.

I was one and lived in Cleveland Heights when the Hough Riots broke out. My entire life I have only heard brief snippets about the events.
Thanks for creating such an informative documentary. It really opened my eyes regarding what really happened that day.
