This is a very special railfan clip. This is a Loram rail grinding train, a rare event and I had the good fortune to be able to capture this unique train while it passed through Dorval station on the Kingston Sub. The conditions were perfect but I had loads of problems editing this video afterward (sync issues). I hope to catch it again soon...

  • Ah, okay, thanks for the info :)

  • Between 6 months & 1 year depending on traffic

It's done to get the rim of the wheel to run central

so lowering side of rim & track wear

  • Ur so lucky to catch one at night and in the winter

  • Lance at least they don't have to worry about track side fires with all that snow

  • How often do they need to ground a rail, and why do they do it in the first place? To reduce friction?
