The Vietnamese community in Germany is widely considered the country's most successful immigrant population. But it pays a high price for that reputation.More than half of the Vietnamese children in Germany attend gymnasium, a secondary school that emphasizes academic learning. That is a higher rate than among German pupils. Vietnamese families place great value on their children's education. The high expectations put particular pressure on boys, who have far more opportunities in Germany than their parents did back in Vietnam.

  • @iglwy I meant the merged Germany, west germany merging with the defunct DDR in 1990...the former west germany didn t wan t to takeover the responsibility, the staff,or the policies of the defunct DDR-state..suddenly, these former northvietnameselived in no-mans land.

  • @am1966ath by "the new germany" you of course mean west germany.

  • @iglwy The DDR imploded..and the new Germany didn t want to inherit the DDr-state...but vietnamese are friendly and discreet.

  • I liked this video...

  • despite being resident in germany for up to 20 years most vietnamese were throw out and sent back home. there were so many racist attacks japanese business men were advised to wear expensive suits so as not to be mistaken for vietnamese when visiting east germany. the german high court declared that the vietnamese residence in germany was a privelege and not a right so they were sent back home, some lucky ones managed to stay. so much for the communist international. vietnamese were exploited.

  • wouldn't you want to leave your country if it had 19 million gallons of agent orange dropped on it. also, 30 years ago there were the boat people fron vietnam. germany still has it's racist Fritz Blut nationality laws. the vietnamese lived in the old communist east germany as guest workers because they worked for half the money and twice the hours. they were hated by the east german people. when the berlin wall came down in 1989 the racist german high court declared they had no right to remain.
