Snakes are quite common in central India, especially the Satpuda range of mountains. Bhopal -- the capital city of Madhya Pradesh -- is famous for the variety of snakes. In Bhopal there is a place -- Vanika, which is a residential colony of the Indian Institute of Forest Management, in which snakes are seen frequently. Mostly rat snakes, cobra and russel viper are seen frequently during the summer and before winter. Saleem, a famous snake catcher in Bhopal when asked, has pointed out that there are number of snakes in and around Bhopal. In the last 30 years, he has caught 160,000 snakes from various localities of Bhopal. This rat snake he caught on 8th October 2011 from the stairs of HIG-2 at VANIKA Colony of IIFM, Bhopal.
