Fallout 3 has a massive and in-depth story line so i cant go over it in depth...
But in 2077 there was a "Great War" and nukes were launched at the United States (at least). But people were saved in Vaults from a company called Vault-Tec, but the vaults were actually part of long term psychological expirements being conducted by Vault-Tec.
The music is I Dont Want To Set The World On Fire by The Ink Spots
In Fallout 3 once you get out of Vault 101 you go around the Wasteland which is the surrounding area which was nuked. Its rather pretty if you like post apocalipto stuff.
