Video sponsored by http://www.luvnaturals.com Hi, Everyone,
here is my quarterly hair growth update. Again, there is no magic to it. The only thing I've done differently in ALL of my 14 years of being natural is handle my hair more gently, wash it on a weekly basis and wear protective styles.

People ask the same questions, so I'm going to give you the same answers. :o)

Q) Did I have long hair as a child?
A) No. Actually, I was bald-headed well into my toddler years. My hair is the longest it has ever been in my life. *I* did not know I could grow hair this long.

Q) Do you TRIM your hair. And if so, how often?
A) I trim off my weathered ends AND knots that I can't undo. Yes, SOME knots can be undone! But it takes practice and knowledge of which knots are worth the bother.
I don't trim my hair "haphazardly", as I've called it, but some people may find trimming their hair evenly without examining their ends to be the most realistic method considering their lifestyle. I have always tried to be upfront and honest about the amount of time I spend caring for my hair. Hair that is well maintained/preserved requires less trimming. If you seek to *maximize* your length retention, you MUST look at each and every strand. Sounds crazy & impossible, but that is what I do. Yes, it takes hours. I usually go through my twists and trim weathered ends & knots while in front of the TV. :o) I do this as needed, that way, I can catch strands that I've missed. Since I'm preparing for flat ironing my hair, for the past month, I've eliminated virtually EVERY knot in my hair. I still look for them though. lol.

Q) Does it really take you 4-5 hours to detangle your hair?
A) YES. I've been on this growth journey since August 2009. There are NO shortcuts for maximum length retention. Emphasis on *maximum*. Because everyone can grow hair, but not everyone will *maximize* their results. Finger combing BEFORE combing with a detangling comb and brush is key. There is no contraption that will mimic your fingers. Your fingers have nerves that lead to your brain. No tool will ever outperform them. Sorry, that can't be stated enough. I keep getting questions about new detangling devices that work miracles, but nothing can match the sensitivity of a gentle, patient hand. Again, detangling is when most hair will be broken.

If you are in disbelief and don't quite buy it, that is perfectly fine. I have videos to prove what I'm talking about. If you believe you have a better way, please feel free share it with the world.:o)

Q) Are you really going to flat iron your hair? Why?
A) Yes. I'm doing it over the weekend. I will post the video of my reveal once I'm done. I expect to be done on Sunday, but a video may be posted on Monday since I don't know how long it will take.

Q) Are you afraid of heat damage?
A) No. But I will take precautions. I'm going to use a moderate a heat setting.

Q) Why do you want to flat iron your hair at all?
A) Because I want to straighten it to see the true length of my hair. I've held off using direct heat for the past 3.5 years and I distinctly remember getting my hair pressed as a child (with HIGH heat) and my hair reverted back to kinky.

Plus, I've already reached my goal length. Some people did not understand the point of this journey. It is not my *obsession* with long hair. It is my obsession with reaching a goal. Once I've reached a goal, I get bored and move on to the next thing. You all don't know me, so naturally, you don't know what makes me tick. lol. I am a "trophy collector". I go through life setting and achieving goals. :o) Achieving the unthinkable thrills me.

Now that I *know* I can grow long hair, it isn't that big of a deal to me anymore--or rather, if I had to cut it due to heat damage, it will simply grow back.

  • @rutha70 Stop flat-ironing, and moisturize and seal everyday. And you might want to cut out the yogurt and egg. That's probably too much protein for your hair. Find a protein free conditioner and use that instead. Good Luck.

  • YOU SHOULD SEE THE GIRL ON FACEBOOKS HAIR. GO TO STEPHANIE SUTHERS ON FACEBOOK.HER HER IS SUPER LONG.

  • i took a day off just to watch all your video,i love ur hair,my hair s very dry,i never knew how to look after my hair,i went hair dresser n said shave your cos ur hair s burned is all rubbish,in 2008 had shaved my hair, last month i start looking after my hair as i felt growing up as a lady

  • hi sister how u doing your hair has grown so super speed, wow u got lots of video,i took a day off from college to see your video,

  • @infraball yea it took me a while to realize that perm was certainly damaging my hair because it was taking the proteins my hair needed and chemically altering the overall texture of the hair while damaging it. I also think that it is actually very possible to grow when its permed but it takes a lot of hard work and a lot of care because it will still damage hair so you would constantly have to try to repair it with treatments, i'd rather just deal with my hair alone, but it is HARD!!
