Ever wondered what the first electric bulbs looked like? Did you know that bulbs were made by hand?In 1890 Thomas Edison made electric bulbs commercially available & set up the first electric utility company.In the initial years you had to lease the hand crafted electric bulbs, and it was only later you could buy the bulbs. We have come a long way since 1879.

  • First bulb in 1879....kinda fits that he BOUGHT THE US PATENT from a Canadian in 1876 !!! LMAO!

  • Many thanks for a superb display, like your phones too, do you have any early Swan bulbs the earlier inventer, both joined forces in England Edison and Swan company.Other early pioneers were Lane fox, Birdseye (frozen foods) Maxim and many more.

    1:25 -- a "thomson-houston" base.

    2:00 -- an early "edison" (d.c.) base.

    Would love to see a comparison between edisons later, longer lasting filament bulbs and the ones that swan had put in several houses and public buildings in the UK earlier
