So, I made this ironic Kindle touch cover out of a hard cover book (International Collectors Library edition of House of Seven Gables).
Steps
1. Place plastic wrap around the cover and first few pages (at least 5-10 I recommend) so that they don't get acrylic or glue on them.
2. Glaze the outside pages with an acrylic medium, using a paint brush (make sure to rinse the brush in water afterwards). This sticks the pages together. Paint the last page so that it sticks to the back cover. Wipe off the excess acrylic.
3. Place something heavy on the book for 30 mins--wait to dry.
4. Trace the outline of the kindle on the first unprotected page to cut out. Make sure that the hole is large enough for the device. There should be some space. Don't cut too close to the edges.
5. Use a box cutter to hollow out the center of the hard cover book. You might want to actually drill a hole into the 4 corners, as this makes it easier to cut out the corners. It gets progressively harder to cut out a perfect rectangle the more pages you cut. Cut out enough pages so that you can close the book with the Kindle. Every so often, place the kindle in the book to see if the device fits snuggly.
6. After cutting out enough pages, glaze the inside edges of the book with acrylic or glue. Then let dry. You might want to also glaze the first page you cut, on top, then take off the plastic wrap and let the first protected page adhere to the top of the first cutout page. After drying you can cut out this page and reveal the hollowed out book so that it looks nicer (can't see the pencil trace and mistakes).
Very creative. :)
