Club Africa presents "Black woman sets example for young winemakers in South Africa" The South African wine industry has been dominated by white males since the 17th century, but this is changing. Currently there are about 20 young black winemakers in the sector. Ntsiki Biyela is one of the most eye catching examples since she is the first black woman to win the international 'Woman winemaker of the year' award in 2009. With her Cabernet Sauvignon she defeated 64 other wines made by 28 female wine producers. Biyela started as junior winemaker in 2004 at Stellekaya winery in Stellenbosch.
