Inside Pop -- The Rock Revolution is a CBS News special, broadcast in April 1967. The show was hosted by Leonard Bernstein and is probably one of the first examples of pop music being examined as a "serious" art form. The film features many scenes shot in Los Angeles in late 1966, including interviews with Frank Zappa and Graham Nash, as well as the now-legendary Brian Wilson solo performance of "Surf's Up."

The mere fact that kraziipwnage is the second comment never mind in sight at all, makes me lose almost all faith in humanity seeing as how this is a sublime and intelligent diagnosis of pop music, still completely relevant and sadly marks the last time since 1967 in which humanity could have easily arousen out of its deep, dark slumber and began our ascend to a higher plane of knowledege and civilazation as a whole. sad stuff indeed but wheres theres a spark could be a fire.

The Bullseye in this 1967 production is Frank Zappa, at 48:13, "and if they'd stop taking drugs... I think everything will turn out alright...", foreseeing the deaths of many great artists, including the one following him in this program, Tim Buckley, who died at 28 from ingesting alcohol & heroin. Frank Zappa was a sound post of the era, from the 60's until his death in '93. Not enough of us listened to Frank; drugs took many of us down; only we who avoided drugs are left to talk about it.

Janis Ian's 'Society's Child' was banned by radio stations all across the country, because of its message--from a 15-year-old girl--of racial intolerance. It spoke to many people at the same time.
