A video of an anti-government protest by Ahwazi Arabs in Ahwaz City, Khuzestan, Iran. It is taken on Farahani Street near the Hay al-Thawra district, which has been a hotbed of Arab separatist unrest in recent years. There is growing Arab unrest over the election results. Most Ahwazi Arabs voted for Karroubi, who topped the poll in Khuzestan in the 2005 presidential elections. The impossibility of advancing ethnic rights through constitutional means has prompted many Arabs to call for the overthrow of the government. This video is the a sign that there is a wave of ethnic Arab unrest and the ethnic schisms Ahmadinejad's election is causing in Iranian society.

  • If there is acknowledgement that ethnic minorities are suffering discrimination and persecution and that someone with power can do something, the minorities will support them. Ahwazi Arabs supported Karroubi for his statements on ethnic rights. Now that elections are rigged, no-one thinks that rights can be won through constitutional means. Independence is one solution, but this will cause great bloodshed on all sides. Better to have a political solution within Iran, eg a federal republic.

  • The crowd is saying "Ali is in our heart, Ali's name written in our history, this street witnessed this scene of martyrdom." I think a man called Ali was killed in this street by the Bassij. There is a sound of motorbikes in the background that may be the Bassij.

  • u know what, for a long time i didn't like the idea of Arabistan, or Khuzestan breaking off from Iran, but because the regime is so bad, i think all parts of Iran should control themselves. Southern Azerbaijain, Kurdistan, Baluchistan. This regime has destroyed Iran worse than the Shah. I hope you guys get your freedom.
