Czech historical movie, the last part of Otakar Vavra's hussite trilogy. July 1420: The crusade army of the Roman king Sigismund besieges Prague, where united forces of hussite parties (utraquists and taborites) gathered for defence. The only way to the city assuring food supply runs around the hill Vitkov east of Prague. Taborites under the lead of Jan Zizka quickly build a wooden fortress on the top of the hill. Since Sigismund doesn't want to risk a direct attack on the walls, he at first decides to defeat Vitkov's defenders and subsequently starve out the city. It's 14th July 1420 and the crusade army starts an attack on Vitkov.

  • Has there ever been a movie about the Bohemian revolt against the Holy Roman Empire from 1618-1620?

  • @lebarosky A serial biography of Jan Amos Komenský (Putování Jana Amose/The wandering of Jan Amos, 1983) and especially a serial biography of Jan Jesenius (Lékař umírajícího času/The Doctor of the Dying Time, 1983) dealt with some aspects of the revolt - but without any larger battle scenes due to limited budget.

A cut film version of the latter - with the scene depicting the Second Prague defenestration in 1618.

  • @centrum99 Or better: Search for "Svedok umierajuceho času 8/12"

  • I would love to own this trilogy on DVD! With English subtitles preferred. Some of the comments here are blocked, if there is source for these I would greatly appreciate the information! Thanks!

  • @douglasherring07 The description of the video contains information, where you can get these films. They have English subtitles.

  • Jan Zizka is one of my favourite commanders. He NEVER lost a single battle. He was also a leader of Czech troops during the Grunwald battle (Tanenberg) fighting bravely against Teutons. That is why in Poland, he is the most famous Czech soldier.

    This is a great film.

  • that guy is Jan Žižka, it was ´´general´´ of hussite armies

  • @lebarosky No,this is about hussits revolution during 1419-1436, it was war against catholics. Battle on Vítkov 1420, czechs leader was famous ,general´ Jan Žižka /old man with one eye/,died 1424.

  • @Adamodevadam and that is why Jagiello Polish King never send his army on cruciate to Czech, and lot of polish knights fight side by side with husits(Dobko Puchala)

  • Ca n anyone imagine a dumber way of attacking such a position? It is as if the Austrian-Hungarians had never read Roman history and had no idea how to lay siege to such a fortress.

  • @lebarosky there are some films about that time but not concernig the revolt itself as far as I know, but I might be wrong

  • ker vredu film
