Northwestern fans are accustomed to sharing their home stadium to thousands of fans from the opposing team. This should be no surprise, and no insult to the highly supportive NU fans. It's simple math! NU has 8,000 undergrads (from all over the world), OSU has 40,000 (mostly from the Midwest)...
Sorry, but I don't buy that EXCUSE for a minute. Columbus is far from being a "College Town"....more like the 15th largest City in the US. It comes down to whether you have FANS that Support Your Program or fair weather Bandwagonners that will only come out to see when you are winning. Where are your Alumni? The marquee programs in the BigTen (OSU,Wisky,UM, PennState have no problem on filling seats ON ANY GIVEN Saturday). And you can keep PRO Sports...overpriced,no atmosphere.
ok northwestern is in a similar situation to minnesota. they are both located in densely populated areas such as the twin cities and chicago that host major sports teams in almost every major league sport there is while columbus as is every other big ten school is located in a collgge town where they are the only show. the ony reason that MN and NW are not able to sell out their stadiums is because the people living there prefer the pro sports more. plain and simple.
I also was at that game with my buddies from Ohio, obviously they enjoyed the Buckeye beatdown of my Wildcats! Honestly it was awesome to see the #1 team in the country. I was hoping they'd get a better tune-up then that for the Michigan game.
Thats pretty sad when the majority of the fans in your home stadium are of the opponents fans. Our fans booed them in their own stadium. Thats great. Go Bucks.

Wow, More people traveled hundreds of miles from Columbus than tens of miles from Chicago. That is really sad. Go Bucks!

That doesn't look like a Big Ten Stadium. Big East, maybe.
