Amazingly, this diesel Norvel RC engine starts with just a spring starter and with no prime required. Just block off the muffler and with a few cranks, it fires up handily. Top end is 11.7K and idle a solid 5K. Prop is an 8 X 4 Cox grey.

  • looks like you were spinning it backwards?

  • No, I'm using a spring starter. Note that I engage the clip at the hub, then I crank it back a turn or two and let go,,, in the correct direction.

But I WAS trying to start a .15 backwards, the YT title is "Something Wrong"

  • what plane is that??

  • It's my own design.

  • cool, could i have the plans please?

  • I'm sorry, there are no plans. Thisplane was built using rough, paper drawings.

  • To the guys bitchin about the way he is starting the engine, It is perfectly safe to use a spring starter and all large gas engines are started by hand. If you were in the hobby thirty years ago starters were frowned upon do to the wear they caused on the back plate and drive washer. I hand start all my engines and it is perfectly safe... if you know what you are doing.

    Nice conversion.

  • A diesel engine is an internal combustion engine that uses the heat of compression to initiate ignition to burn the fuel, which is injected into the combustion chamber during the final stage of compression.

  • mine runs on straight diesel

  • is there any way to modd. a nitro to run on straight deisel. i know deisel is pretty much just oil so you shouldnt need to add any lubricants right? in my head and my theory, if you have a high enough comp. ratio, hot enough glow plug and the correct fuel, air mix then it should run on diesel i would think. plz reply with your thoughts, suggestions, or comments

  • is this a nitro motor??? can any rc nitro motor run diesel?

  • @phin3s Not in this case - no injecter, is an air fuel mix.

  • @hopeso I had a little cox power PT as my first control line. One day I started it and when dad let it go it went backwards. Used the same spring starter as this, just did it the wrong way.

  • @phin3s

"which is injected into the combustion chamber during the final stage of compression." nope, this one uses a carb and compresses the mixture, not just air!

  • it all depends on the engine...

  • no, its kerosene and castor oil

  • what model is that what kind of plane i main.
