Two U.S. soldiers shot dead at Frankfurt airport

http://timesofearth.com/Worldnews/?NT=0&nid=34166 Frankfurt - A gunman has been taken into custody after an attack on a bus carrying U.S. Air Force troops at Germany's Frankfurt International Airport. Two men were killed and two others were wounded.

German authorities said one the two men killed Wednesday was the bus driver. Identities of the victims are being withheld until their families are notified.

The suspect has been identified as a 21-year-old Arif Uka, originally from Kosovo.

U.S. President Barack Obama said he is "saddened" and "outraged" by the attack. He said the U.S. will spare no effort to learn how the incident took place and the U.S. is working with German authorities to ensure that all the perpetrators are brought to justice.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel expressed her condolences to the victims and their families, saying the government will do everything to find out what happened.

The government of Kosovo issued a statement condemning the shooting.

Kosovo's Interior Minister Bajram Rexhepi told VOA that German police informed him that the alleged shooter is a Kosovo citizen from the town of Mitrovica.

The Associated Press spoke with 70-year-old Rexhep Uka in Mitrovica who says he is the suspect's uncle. He described Arif as a devout Muslim, whose grandfather was a religious leader at a Zhabar village mosque outside Mitrovica.

The U.S. military has a number of bases in Germany, including the Ramstein Air Base near Frankfurt. Many are used as hubs for operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
