Interesting. Both the eagle and the owl are in competition for the same food source. One hunts at night, the other at day. The owl probably understands that if the chicks are allowed to grow, it will mean even greater competition for food and threats to it's own chicks.

The eagle would love to find the owls nest during the day.

Could the owls nest be safe in a barn, or building of somekind that the eagle cannot get to?

That is not true, a bird who can kick eagle arse is the Secretary Bird. They are huge and have poweful kick. it's a very powerful bird. There are some video on here, if you search you will see one of them attacking a vulture. Look how big those vultures are. Eagles don't pray on them too big.

Interesting for sure. That explains why the very next evening I saw the eagles an owl flew in that night and landed in the same spot the eagle was in the day before.

Gho's are powerful but are only trying to get the eagle off the nest and kill the young. In the daytime Gho's are often killed or injured from confrontations with the larger hawks and eagles.

This was most likely dad in the nest. He usually stays behind with the young but now always.

eagles can be very vicious... they rule the day time when it comes to birds... they wouldn't hesitate to kill an owl. The owl was taking it's chance at night.

The hoots were from a Barred Owl. "Who cooks for you". Probably wanting to flush parent from nest to take the young.
