The only reason that child turned into this is the moronic father's parental behaviour. Children reflect their emotions towards the people in their life, by choosing a specific outer appearance that is purely symbolic - the black/white deathly appearance is a symbol of the deep hatred this kid feels for his father. I'm only 19 but I know that because I've experienced it myself and gotten over it.
