German Sheperd first heat cycle, blood control, introduction to wear diaper, description of putting on the diaper and diaper liner.
First I measured her waist at 21". The size was available in large and XL. Go with the smaller size for a snug fit and minimal overlap with the velcro. Then get cheap womans Maxi pad or large regular with the adhesive strip. Install the liner into the diaper with the pad at the end where the tail hole is in the diaper. Keeping everything centered is key to keeping the diaper clean (which is washable).

Then play with your pup with her favorite toy. After several retrieves with the toy I introduced the diaper and liner next to the ball. I teased her with the ball while holding the diaper calm and still in the other hand. I then put the ball into my pocket and praised for being a good dog. Then I rubbed the diaper on to her neck and shoulders while petting head with the other hand. I then told her to "STAY" as I straddled her waist and hips facing her tail. Constantly keep a fun voice and tone to be a good girl and proceded to pull her tail trough the diaper hole and then bring the velcro staps under the belly and up to the top her hips on her back. Then I always giver her a little pat on the shoulders to let her know we are done and time to "Play Ball".
I played for about 20 minutes and brought her into the house. Then gave her a "large Greenie" dog chew bone. After an hour I took her to the front door and let out into the favorite play area without the diaper. Then after ample time for her to go potty, back to the putting on the diaper in the grass. (porch will leave blood spots and extra cleaning) And then back into the house for a nap! She has not pulled off the diaper once and does not seem to mind. Be aware that the diaper may cause her to get over heated and allow ample time for her to go out and cool off. Observations of my dog squatting in the cool grass is not uncommon to aid in relief. I change her liner twice a day and would not reccomend flipping the liner to a clean spot...the dog may try to clean the area because of old blood and odor? No scented pad either is my reccomendation. She has become less playful indoors and seeks to lay her head on my feet or lap. I hope this is helpful and I do not look forward to this again. But she will be spayed at 2 years old and hopefully no pups prior. I keep her locked in a 10 x 10 foot kenal and will bring her into the garage if neccessary should male dogs come sniffing around!

  • absolutely Beautiful thanks for the Vid I have also a GSD female who today came to her first cycle, why I ended up here! Thank you for sharing your beautifully HEALTHY gorgeous girl who seems to be doing very well with learning to share! Best of luck and GREAT JOB with her. Question though in regards to the diaper what is the cost, I ask this only because I am thinking that when you need to change that one out to launder thinking having two would be wise did you find that to be so? thank you

  • @dogasphalt - the option to buy a 2 pack is a good idea. Some manufactures have noisey plastic between the deniem exterior and the flannel interior. On her second heat cycle I bought a larger size and she chewed a hole the size of a golf ball and pulled the crinkley plastic out. I guess it does not breath and the swollen vagina was not happy in the sauna suit....But an easy patch job with an old tee shirt for liner worked well. Buying the large feminie underwear liners is a must.$25 for 2 pack

  • The water planter was in preperation for a tropical lilly plant into the red flower pot came spilling out. I'm sorry you think that water is dirty? We have baby koi that thrive in the natural ecosystem in the planters. Otherwise if the water was "dirty" the sensitive baby koi would die like a coal miner's canary.

Also the water is clean inside the kennel. As it gets splashed out daily, dumped, rinsed, and refilled. Water quality is important. I feed my dog raw steak too...any more comments!?
