M.A.K., aka Marc McGhee, was born in Oak Park, and raised in the Valley Hi area of Sacramento, CA. Growing up, he was surrounded by music, with his father being the lead singer in a band, and one of his uncles being a multi-instrumentalist, playing any instrument you could think of. The step-father of Nate Curry, aka N8 the Gr8 (cousin of M.A.K.), was a studio genius and introduced the youngsters to that side of the music business as well. Needless to say, the musical seed was planted early in the life of M.A.K.. "My moms side of the family were hustlers, and the hustlers mentality mixed with the love of music made me what I am today."
As a teenager growing up on the south side of Sacramento, M.A.K. got caught up with gangs and that soon transformed into drug dealing. "My passion for music helped me to take all of my experiences and turn them into songs." He began to take music more and more seriously, and in 2000, M.A.K. released his first album, "Make A Killin." At the same time, he was involved in a group called Fugitives, and they released an album called "Can't stop, Won't Stop." While working on another group album with a crew called 847, as well as his second solo album, "Point of No Return," the street life caught up with him in the form of a 10-year sentence in federal prison. Nine years later, he's back with a fresh outlook on life and a fresh album, "Still Making A Killen" M.A.K. signed with N-Crowd Entertainment in early 2010, and is excited to tell his story and represent his city, Sacramento. "Its reality rap with a message... A true success story of a man who went through the streets to prison and back to speak on the game.... Love, pain, fun, drama... I've seen it all." The album reflects this perspective, and has a little of everything for everyone.
The lead-off single for the album is an instant West-Coast classic!! Bound to be a favorite at BBQ's, in trunks and in clubs, M.A.K.'s single "Dreams" is produced by N8 The Gr8 and features Oakland native J. Stalin and fellow N-Crowd Entertainment artist Maryann who sings a beautiful chorus that pretty much sums the song up "Blood,Sweat, Tears." The song is about following your dreams and not falling victim to the temptations of the streets or the fear of failure. A music video will be released shortly on youtube and the N-Crowd website www.ncrowdentertainment.com, to help M.A.K. reclaim his spot in the Sacramento rap scene. Be on the lookout for "Still Makin' A Killin" in the Fall of 2012 on N-Crowd Entertainment.
