  • @seiya266 If the rod was positive, the mobile electrons in the pith ball would move to the left due to their attraction to the rod. This would cause the left side of the rod to become negative and the right side to become positive. Since the side closest to the rod is negative, the pith ball would once again move towards the rod and make contact. The pith would then lose electrons to the rod and become positive and, like in the previous scenario, the rod and pith ball would repel..
