Indian film industry says hello to virtual humans

Animated movies are making an entry into the Indian market and are expected to be among the most profitable for the movie industry. During the past 2 years or so, almost every major film studio has sought to emulate the success of the genre pioneered by Hollywood biggies.
One such film being made by Fire Films & Media is REGAA AND REZA. Some of the salient features of this ambitious venture are:
1) Introducing Virtual Realistic Stars First in India
This movie takes a leap ahead of the others in the 3D arena by launching virtual stars i.e. virtual human characters. This is the first ever space fiction 3D animation movie introducing virtual human characters in India. These characters could also be called "virtual stars" and experts predict a big future for them. In India animation movies so far have been made based on cartoon characters that can easily indicate emotion, but high-resolution virtual humans have a face made up of lakhs of polygons, far more than cartoons. As per Sanjay Saagar, Chairman of Fire Media, virtual female characters, those have been around for a while now often resemble one another and feel unreal. These avatars are just "lame representations of humans" and should not be confused with virtual humans. The latter have more facial expressions and it is possible to control and measure their movements and that is what is so special about the characters REGAA AND REZA
Fire Media has scanned many faces in order to achieve different expressions in 3D - to build and present the facial expressions of its virtual stars as realistically as possible. This has helped the production house build characters that emote all human emotions and replicate their mannerisms as well. The characters are young and old and of both sexes. The names are Rocky, Rini, Robert and Lisa. Apart from the human characters, the film also introduces an alien of a different kind, the one that is not weird looking!
2) A fully Computer Generated, yet a real looking film
The makers of the movie have tried to bring in more realism with the use of image-based modeling and advanced animation software, to create the impression that a virtual character is as alive as any of the real stars viz. Kareena, Katrina, SRK or Akshay. The other advantage of having virtual stars in a movie is that they do not charge crores and do not have date hassles.
The film will be the first 3D animation release across India and a pioneering effort to introduce human characters adapting the motion capture technique. The production unit currently involves over 150 animators and technicians. The film production is expected to be completed within six months.
3) Indias own First Space Fiction Film
The makers are leaving no stone unturned to use as much authentic information possible in this science fiction and for this they have roped in J.J. Rawal, founder and former director of Nehru Planetarium and President of Indian Planetary Society as a special advisor. The film unfolds on three different planets including the one created by the maker.
This is the first ever 3D animation film in the genre of science/space fiction being made in India. This unique project is sure to strike a chord with the audience, both in India and overseas.
