We have dedicated our Sunday, October 23 show to the memory of James (Jamie) Hubley. Jamie was the 15 year old high school student from Ottawa who committed suicide this week after relentless bullying at school and online.

Jamie loved the sport of figure skating and was a member of the Glen Cairn Figure Skating Club. His dad said, "In Grade 7 he was treated very cruelly simply because he liked figure skating over hockey."

Each of our pairs recorded a video message in tribute to Jamie where they speak from their hearts with the hope that they can bring awareness to the cruelty of bullying so that no family loses a child in this senseless way again.

All of us at Battle of the Blades send our sincere condolences to Jamie's family and friends.

The charity identified by Jamie's family is the Youth Services Bureau's Mental Health Walk-in Clinic in Ottawa.

  • Bullying needs to stop now. It's terrible that some kids are killing themselves due to the treatment they are receiving. It's up to the parents and teachers to make this stop. Please be aware of what your child is up to. I hope jeffrey Buttle comes out with a bio soon. I'd like to know more about this terrific skater and person.

  • A very thoughtful & compassionate message, Jeff--you were always one of my favourite figure skaters, on & off the ice!
