This train took me by surprise in Shirley Illinois on June 1, 2005. It is headed north at about 80 mph. Notice the Doppler Effect

  • Excellent review. Would you care to use your extensive vocabulary to elaborate on your profound statement?

  • Doppler effect?

  • The Doppler effect, named after Christian Doppler, is the change in frequency and wavelength of a wave that is perceived by an observer moving relative to the source of the waves.

  • I am familiar to the Doppler effect. Einstein surmised E=MC2 from it. Its all good.

  • What is basically means is that the train becomes quieter after it passes you because the sound is mostly moving away from you. You probably experience this regularly with police cars, fire trucks, etc.

  • Get a better camra, cool shot though.

  • zooooooooooommm!!!!!!

  • cool doppler efect

  • finally a Superliner with some speed, dammit! gotta get them Superliners up to Acela speed!

  • OK- meaning that you captured it coming and going, then, I guess. Its a good thing you weren't standing on the tracks when it caught you by surprised
