Bismarck KOA is an easy off/on from I-94. Don't be surprised if you decide to stay longer than planned at this family-friendly park. The TLC that goes into this KOA Kampground is evident the moment one drives through the security gate. Brightly colored flower plantings and baskets greet the registering traveler...and a warm greeting from the staff team makes one feel you're "home." There are plenty of options to choose from for parking big rigs (though reservations are highly recommended). For those who prefer no trees, that option is available while other sites provide "privacy" hedges, and mature trees provide a welcome shade during the summer. The expansive tenting area is beautifully maintained and feels secluded enough to say you're in the woods. KOA Kabins are available to accommodate those who prefer less of a "roughing it" experience.
There is a lot to do without leaving the campground: A beautiful swimming pool is located in front of the gift shop and convenience store. Relax at a poolside patio table or under shade and brightly potted hanging baskets. Make your own ice cream sundae every evening. Take advantage of the Bar-B-Q ribs and brisket prepared slow-cook style - sure to make you show up every Friday & Saturday evening it's served. Yummm! Better tell the office staff you'll be there at dinnertime! There's also a great tennis and basketball court, horseshoes and a kiddy playground.
The Bismarck area is rich in history. At Fort Abraham Lincoln, a key infantry and cavalry post in the 1800s, tour General George Custer's home. Depart from the Port of Bismarck for a Missouri River cruise in a classic paddlewheel riverboat. About 40 miles north of the capital city is the Lewis & Clark Interpretive Center and re-created Fort Mandan. You'll discover how local Native Americans helped the men survive the brutal winter of 1804-05. Also visit Knife River Indian Villages nearby. Make Bismarck KOA your destination point.
