INGREDIENTS:
1 pound ground turkey (ground beef, chicken, or pork)
1 cup ketchup * (barbecue sauce or chili sauce)
1/4 cup water (or broth)
1 - 2 Tablespoons brown sugar (honey or sugar)
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce (steak sauce or soy sauce; you know you have some packets LOL)
2 teaspoons prepared mustard
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt (or garlic powder)
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
Salt and pepper to taste
4 - 6 hamburger buns, split (sliced bread or rolls)

OPTIONAL:
1/2 cup of frozen pepper/onion stir-fry (or 1/4 cup each of chopped onions and peppers) **
Hot sauce, a couple of dashes to taste or 1 teaspoon vinegar

DIRECTIONS:
In a medium, non-stick pan, brown ground turkey over medium-high heat until no longer pink, drain off excess liquid and fat from the meat. Add the onions and peppers and let the vegetables become translucent and tender. Stir in the remaining ingredients; the ketchup, water, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, garlic salt, onion powder along with salt and pepper to taste or of course, whatever you have on hand ;-). Bring to a boil.

Then, reduce the heat, cover and simmer for 20-30 minutes. Stir and serve on lightly toasted buns or toast along with your favorite vegetable or salad and maybe some chips ;-). Enjoy!

SERVES:
4 - 6

* To make it even more "sloppy" or saucy, you can decrease the ketchup (or whatever sauce you have) to 3/4 cup while increasing the water to 1/2 cup and simmer the sauce for an additional 10 minutes making the total simmering time 30 - 40 minutes.

** Also to increase the serving sizes just add more chopped vegetables.

  • how about cook once eat for a week!

  • @wuhlei You are absolutely right ;-)! Whatever time I do cook, I always cook for more than one night of meals. Recently, I cooked four pork loins and my family and I ate them for a week (or more). We were all "porked-out" by the end and I don't think we will be eating pork anytime soon LOL. Please take a look at my videos for my pork loin recipes.

  • Great Idea!!!!

  • Thanks ;-)!

  • Yummy. I will definitely try this sloopy joe recipe which brings back wonderful childhood memories on the night my father cooked.
