The add on installation process is a blender feature. If it does not work for you, then something is very wrong with your blender installation. Maybe you could try to find out first why blender does not work right for you ? Maybe try also with Blender 2.57 and 2.58b ? It should run out of the box and stil exactly as shown in the video ...
