This scene is straight from the book, and it happened near the beginning, though i'm pretty sure it happened in the restaurant the one where the movie starts at, not in the car.

McDermott is really the most asinine, dull and horrid reminder of the 80s they could have possibly thrown in- really gives credence to Bateman's psychosis and why as he puts it in the book "I'm tempted to gut McDermott, maybe sever his spine"
